Our Sustainable Design Principles are the lens through which we look at all project opportunities.

These Principles are in a deliberate hierarchy, moving from high order considerations through increasing technical detail to arrive at a comprehensive strategy for each project.

Providing benefits for the wider community and the State.

Ecology and Landscape Led

Planning and design process respects and improves existing site ecology.

Identity and Sense of Place

We research and incorporate the cultural and natural history of the site into the design.

Healthy, Safe and Inclusive

Ensuring everyone who encounters our developments is valued and cared for.

Optimal use of Resources

To be efficient with resources, consider the full life cycle of materials and the impact of our supply chains. We must also ensure that we measure and report transparently.

 

A carbon neutral organisation

Hesperia is Western Australia’s first property group to be certified as a Carbon Neutral Organisation by Climate Active.

A Federal government initiative, the Climate Active certification is the established national standard for carbon neutral claims.

This certification covers Hesperia’s operational emissions as part of our commitment to addressing our impacts on climate change, and dates back to inception of the company in 2020.

We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good; purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders.

As a B Corp and a leader in this emerging economy, we believe:

Public commitment to net zero

Hesperia signed the World Green Building Council’s 2021 Net Zero Buildings Commitment.

This public commitment recognises the need to reduce emissions from our project work. Fundamentally, this means measuring, reducing and offsetting emissions using a credible framework.

We recognise that carbon offsetting is a contested space. We aim to remove emissions from our supply chain and obtain genuine, verified offsets as we continue to work towards zero carbon projects.

Transitioning our supply chain

Sustainable resources are those that come from natural, renewable cycles. We are seeking to have all our projects operating with renewable energy from both on and off site sources.

In 2023, Hesperia founded its renewable energy business, Enpowered. Enpowered will work to deliver 100 per cent renewable energy to our projects while building a portfolio of energy assets as an independent business.

Water is another key consideration in our projects. Hesperia sources the most appropriate water for irrigation and other uses on our sites, rather than always relying on mains water. We are also evolving our construction methods by including low carbon concrete mixes and applying recycled materials in expanding uses.

We have also developed a Supplier Code of Conduct and we are working to ensure that we identify and respond to ethical and other risks in our supply chains. Hesperia has become a supporting member of the Noongar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Supply of Nation to underline our commitment to a practical, meaningful pathway to reconciliation in Australia.

Transparency and verification

Hesperia has adopted a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy to guide our projects.

Hesperia has committed to seek certification through third-party frameworks such as Green Star, EnviroDevelopment, and One Planet Living for all projects.

We have set a starting point of a 5 Star Green Star certification for all new buildings, including all new industrial buildings. Green Star is an internationally recognised, trusted certification of sustainability covering the design, construction, and operation of a facility.

We believe the 5 Star Green Star rating level provides the right balance of reducing environmental impacts and delivering better spaces for employees while optimising economic benefits.
Hesperia land developments are generally assessed against the EnviroDevelopment framework, targeting 6 Leaf Certification.
