Refurbishment sees The Rechabite returned to the people of Perth
November 24, 2019
The reimagined Rechabite Hall is complete, heralding a new era in arts and entertainment in the Perth CBD.
The four-year, $3 million project, driven by Hesperia director Adrian Fini and former Artrage chief executive Marcus Canning, has restored the heritage-listed temperance hall to its former glory.
The Rechabite now features a versatile 1,500-capacity main performance space, a rooftop bar known as Hello, a basement bar called The Goodwill Club, and pan-Asian restaurant Double Rainbow on its ground floor.
Originally designed by architect Edwin Summerhayes, Rechabite Hall was built in 1925 for the Independent Order of Rechabites, a ‘friendly society’ that started in England in the 1830s.
After its original owners vacated the space in the 1940s the venue underwent a series of changes and renovations, serving purposes ranging from a Commonwealth Bank branch to a rehearsal space for local rock bands.
After lying dormant for over eight years, the recent restoration and transformation of the building has once again opened its doors to the public as The Rechabite.
