Hesperia is committed to projects that inspire people and create real value for the long term. This responsibility extends beyond the operations of our business to positively contribute and champion the communities in which we operate.
To support this, Hesperia actively participates in fundraising and community activities throughout the year focused on culture and the arts, Aboriginal prosperity, environmental conservation and youth wellbeing.
Our work with Bird Life Australia has continued in 2022 through the ‘Revamp a Cocky Nest’ project, which aims to protect and improve breeding seasons for the Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo. Hesperia sponsored the refurbishment and maintenance of 30 existing artificial hollows, to ensure viable nest options for Carnaby’s into the future.
Our Health and Wellness Committee held its second R U OK? Day fundraiser on the National Day of Action in September. It was an opportunity for the team to come together over lunch and share the importance of good mental health in our personal and professional lives. Hesperia was pleased to match the donations made by staff through our donation-matching program, to support the R U OKAY? charity. Throughout the year, the Health and Wellness Committee drives initiatives, provides resources and hosts events to optimise both the physical and mental health of our employees.
In addition to fundraising activities and events, Hesperia encourages and empowers staff to offer their time to not-for-profit organisations. Earlier this year, we worked in the Food Bank warehouse to assist with packing and sorting groceries for people in Western Australia. Recently the team spent two days volunteering at Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, planting 400 Tubestock shrubs and weeding a significant section of land as part of the rehabilitation mission. The Centre is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured black cockatoos, releasing them back into the wild when possible.
MOTIVATION FOUNDATION
Hesperia has become a Scholarship and Employer Partner for the Motivation Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation aiming to educate and develop life and employability skills for school students.
Our donation provides two scholarships for students from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to achieve a nationally recognised Certificate II in Civil Construction and Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation, through on-site training and workplace experience.
FOOD BANK
More than 300,000 Western Australians experience food insecurity each year. Hesperia recently volunteered at Food Bank, working in the warehouse packing toiletries and packaging meat in the freezer.
It was an eye-opening experience to see the scale of operations at the warehouse. Food Bank relies heavily on volunteers, and we were proud to offering our time to ensure Western Australians have access to good quality food.
RIDE FOR YOUTH
Hesperia is once again participating in the annual Hawaiian Ride for Youth in 2023, with new and experienced cyclists representing our team. Gráinne Byrne, Tim Sondalini, Richard Stroud, Tim Tjhung and Abby Wheeler are taking on the 700km ride from Albany to Perth, raising funds and awareness to support Youth Focus and its mental health services.
Official training commences on October 11th, but our keen riders have already started their preparations and are now proficient in clipping in and out of their cleats! The team will be hosting a fundraiser early next year, keep an eye out for details to come.
Hesperia has proudly sponsored the event since 2018 and is pleased to be an Official Partner again in 2023.
RUAH – MOTHER’S DAY
Earlier this year, our team raised money for women residing in domestic violence refugees and transitional housing.
RUAH created $200 gift bags with our donation, which included vouchers, chocolates and skincare for Mother’s Day. A sincere thank you to our staff for their generosity – the gift bags were greatly appreciated and enjoyed.
